The Introduction about "Sparks Concentration Camp"

(1) your names, pictures of yourselves, and brief introductions of your individual identities
Sybil, a special name which means the Fortune Teller, that' s me, a girl who always prefer to choose to do different and challenging things. In fact, i have 5 years working experience in HR department as a compensation&benefit supervisor in Shanghai. With the rapid expansion of our company, my line manager hoped me would take more responsibility about OD(organization development), and gradually, i found the shortage of my knowledge, horizon and mind. So i gave up the precious opportunity to be promoted as a C&B manager and decided to quit the job and come here to further my study. I believe what i give up today will be the foundation of my future success.

Hi, I'm Yanna Wang, a girl from Shenzhen, now as a full time student in MSOCM. I have worked in Standard Charter Bank for a year as a intern in HR department, and after I got my bachelor degree of HRM I joined the Li&Fung Shenzhen corporate as a recruiter. During the year that I worked in LF, I have faced so many challenges and I believed I have grown up so much, which enticed me I had to learn more so that I could conquer bigger challenges and get the ideas of how to improve my work or help the organization. So I came to CityU to seek knowledge. Below is my picture, but now I'm short hair..so..

My name is David and I have worked as a business analyst at Hong Kong Telecom for 6 years.
Recently I have been promoted to take a leading role in a small team. It is a team consisted of 2 to 3 colleagues. The main responsibility of the team involve sales revenue reporting and computer system enhancement. As a requirement of my new job role, I have to devote considerable amount of time to motivate team members, boast operation efficiency, and inspire them to achieve their full potentials. From the past, I had been so used to apply technical solution to tackle and solve workplace problems. But dealing with people, or specifically their emotions and feelings, has never been strength of mine. By taking this course, I expect I can learn the fundamentals that compose a successful and sustainable team.

Nice to meet you all and I hope that we will have a great and unique learning experience.

Week 11, Accounting and Apologizing for Mistakes; Managing and Preventing Crisis by Cultivating Mindfulness & Resilience

We think that most of the topics in class are very useful. Take "Managing and Preventing Crisis by Cultivating Mindfulness & Resilience" as an example, it is an inspiring topic since companies nowadays are highly responsive to the change of economic/business environment, and thus business needs are also changing rapidly, which inevitably lead to more human errors and re-works, especially in times of tight schedule and limited resource. The result of these problems will cause frustration and damage team spirit. Mindfulness and resilience should reduce the occurrence and consequence of errors, to the team and the organization it is an immediate benefit and direct cost saving. Besides, a mindful team tends to take up tasks that are more critical, and this will give team members better chance of job enlargement and job enrichment.

(5) what additional topics your group would like to learn in this class,
Additional topics as below:
1. How to establish the suitable collaboration relationship with the subordinates.
2. How to influence the others whose position level higher than you in a team.
3. How to determine and design team building activities and maximize the involvement of participants

(6) one myth you have about “COLLABORATION” that wants confirmation or disconfirmation.
Myth: The team members who own the similar level of expertise and working experience can collaborate effective and efficient.
One the one hand, it is true that the people who have the similar level of expertise and working experience prefer to collaborate together under the normal circumstance. Firstly, these team members could understand each others easily so that they could form the team and enter into the performing stage quickly.  Secondly, they could share their previous experience and resources in a considerably fair status. Thirdly, it is easy for them to fast response once they come across difficulties because they have similar recognition and perception, which means they can save a lot time to explain to everyone about the difficulties and details of solution. Base on the reasons above, it is no doubt that these kind of team members could work effective and efficient in some degree.
One the other hand, however, diversity is also the key issue to measure the creativity and vitality of a team. People who have different working backgrounds in different ages, in the matter of fact, need to confront the relatively long run-in period or forming stage. However, it will help the all the members avoid the thinking set which is easily appear among the people who have the similar working experience and level of expertise, especially for high level position holders, they get used to think in a deep lay use a complicated model and tend to ignore the superficial and simple problems which sometimes are the true reasons to cause the worse results, just because the thinking set. So the diversified team members could have variable insights and perceptions which could develop the complementary thoughts which will improve the creativity and effectiveness in the large extent. In addition to that, both senior and junior people could be beneficial from this kind of collaboration, tiding and updating the knowledge from the senior perspective, absorbing and establishing the knowledge in terms of the senor.
